My name is Zoë. I am a rug-maker and artist living and working on Yolŋu country in beautiful Arnhem Land, Australia. Through Mango Lala Studio I create weird and wonderful textiles for floors and walls.
My work is very much inspired by the Northern Territory's bright, colourful tropical lifestyle. Whilst I predominantly focus on rug tufting, you may occasionally spy a woven, crocheted, embroidered or handbuilt ceramic piece popping up here.
Commissions for 2023 are open on a limited basis.
Each rug is tufted by hand in my little home studio. The commission process begins with a conversation about colours, sizing, use, and overall design. This is followed by an initial quote and the development of 2-3 concept sketches.
Due to my remote location and associated difficulties sourcing materials, the lead time for a rug commission is currently estimated at 3-6 months.
